"Homebuyers' Top 5 Must-Have Features: Is Your Home Ready?"

by Gilannie Sarai

As the housing market continues to boom, homebuyers are becoming increasingly specific about what they want in their next home. While some of these desires may vary depending on the location and the demographic of the buyer, there are a few home attributes that seem to be universally in demand. Here are the top five attributes that are currently on the top of homebuyer lists.

  1. Laundry Room According to a recent survey, 87% of homebuyers are looking for a separate laundry room in their next home. This means a dedicated room for laundry, not just a corner in another room. Additionally, 63% of those who want a laundry room would like it to be on the main floor and easily accessible from the main living space.

  2. Exterior Lighting Exterior lighting is increasing in popularity among homebuyers. Not only does it add significant value to a property, but it also enhances curb appeal and makes the home feel safer. Homebuyers are also interested in having plenty of lighting in outdoor spaces to extend the usability of the exterior living areas.

  3. Ceiling Fans While ceiling fans may have been considered unattractive in the past, they are now coming back in popularity as homebuyers prioritize climate control in their homes. About 83% of people surveyed were hoping to find a ceiling fan in their next home.

  4. Quality Windows Energy costs are on the rise, and homebuyers are looking for ways to keep their homes comfortable without breaking the bank. Energy-efficient windows with an Energy Star rating are seen as a major asset, with 83% of homebuyers looking for a home that has them.

  5. Patio Outdoor spaces have been increasingly popular for some time, and patios in particular are highly desirable among homebuyers in 2023. 82% of those surveyed would like to find a patio in their next home. Patios are even more desirable than decks or front porches with rocking chairs. The good news is that patios are also relatively easy and cost-effective to install compared to other outdoor spaces.

Knowing what homebuyers are looking for can be a valuable strategy when preparing your home for sale. Working with a local real estate agent can help you determine which features are most in demand in your area and how to showcase them. By making sure your home has these top attributes, you can make it more appealing to potential buyers and increase your chances of a successful sale.
